Donor-Advised Funds

For donors who like more control and involvement without administrative costs of operating their own family foundation.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving vehicle established at an organization recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a charity, such as a community foundation. It enables donors to make a charitable contribution without specifying the charities that will ultimately benefit from their gift right away and the funds can grow tax-free. The donor receives an immediate donation receipt and can also create a lasting legacy by naming Golf Canada Foundation as the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to Golf Canada Foundation and other organizations near to your heart.

Benefits of a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF):

  • A more efficient way to give: a DAF offers the same benefits as a private charitable foundation without the operating and overhead costs or dealing with the administrative headaches.
  • Flexible giving options: A DAF allows a donor to give a range of non-cash assets. These may include cash-equivalents, publicly traded securities, stock, shares, gifts-in-kind among others. If you use appreciated securities to establish your fund, you are exempt from capital gains tax.
  • Tax-free growth now and for the future: The funds in a DAF have the potential to grow tax-free, making the amount of money available for granting to a donor’s preferred charity even greater.
